Special Concert: We the people

A Musical Celebration of Liberty & Independence

at DAR Constitution Hall, 1776 D St. NW, Washington, DC 20006

Sunday, November 22, 4 p.m.

We the People is a powerful concert experience that reminds us that freedom is not merely a national ideal, but a human right. Through some of opera’s most stirring masterpieces, the evening traces the universal struggle for liberation and dignity. From the spiritual yearning of Bellini’s I Puritani, to the songs of resistance in Verdi’s Nabucco, to the emotional fire of Il Trovatore, plus Beethoven, Bernstein, Copland, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Handel — these works embody the spirit of risorgimento, Italian for the “rising again” of a people.

At the center of this sweeping musical journey are four extraordinary voices: Jonathan Tetelbaum, Renée Fleming, Thomas Hampson, and Amber R. Monroe. We the People is a reminder that the desire to be free is one of humanity’s oldest and most urgent songs — and it is still being written
